Government sources said on Thursday that the figures show a sharp drop in the number of active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, where a total of 91 terrorists were active in the same period in 2024.

76 Terrorists Active in Jammu & Kashmir: 17 local terrorists active

Out of the 76 active terrorists, 17 are local terrorists who are active in the Union Territory. Jammu and Kashmir has been a hotbed of insurgency and terrorism since the 1980s, with militancy being fueled by Pakistan-based terrorist groups, cross-border infiltration and radicalization efforts.

Three of the 59 active foreign terrorists are from Hizbul Mujahideen

Sources said that out of the 59 active foreign terrorists, three are from Hizbul Mujahideen, 21 are from Jaish-e-Mohammed and 35 are from Lashkar-e-Taiba. However, out of the 17 local terrorists, three are active in Jammu and 14 in the Valley. Out of the 91 active terrorists in 2024, 61 were foreign terrorists and 30 were local terrorists.

A total of 135 terrorists were active in 2022

According to the data, a total of 135 terrorists were active in 2022. Of these, 85 were foreign terrorists and 50 were local terrorists. There has been a decline of about 48.35 percent in the number of active terrorists in 2023 as compared to the figure of active terrorists in 2022.

76 Terrorists Active in Jammu & Kashmir: Terrorist aides caught in Bandipora

Security forces on Thursday caught two aides of terrorists during an anti-terror operation in Bandipora in North Kashmir. Two grenades, 17 assault rifle cartridges, one assault rifle magazine, eight pistol cartridges and one magazine, two mobile phones and other items were also recovered from them.

A police spokesperson said that the police, along with the soldiers of Army’s 13 RR and CRPF’s 45th battalion, had set up a check post on the Gandbal-Hajin road in Bandipora. This check post was set up after receiving information about the activities of some anti-national elements in the area. The check post party started checking all the vehicles and people passing through there.

Meanwhile, the check post party signaled two youths passing by to stop. Instead of stopping, those youths tried to run away from there. The check post party foiled their intention to escape and caught them.

Both of them may be working for active Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists

They were searched and weapons and other items were recovered from them. They have been identified as Naseer Ahmad Parrey, resident of Kathpura Hajir and Mudassir Ahmad Parrey resident of Gandbal Hajin. Both of them work for Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists active in Bandipora.
