Six Years Of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

Six Years of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, more than 40.35 crore accounts opened, women account holders 55.2 percent. The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Red Fort on 15 August 2014. It was launched on August 28 of the same year. Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) completed its six years on Friday.

Under this ambitious scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was started to open bank accounts of the poor, more than 40.35 crore accounts have been opened so far in which Rs 1.31 lakh crore has been deposited. Of the total accounts opened under this scheme, 63.6 percent have been opened in rural areas and 55.2 percent account holders are women.

On the 6th anniversary of PMJDY, the Finance Ministry made several tweets, mentioning the achievements of the scheme. A total of 29.75 crore RuPay cards were issued to PMJDY account holders under this scheme. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) reported that under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, a total of Rs 30,705 crore was deposited in the accounts of women PMJDY account holders during April-June 2020. Around 8 crore PMJDY account holders received Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) from the government under various schemes.

On the occasion, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also reiterated the importance of PMJDY and emphasized how the scheme is the cornerstone for the PM Modi government’s people-centric economic initiatives. Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur also expressed his opinion on PMJDY. The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Red Fort on 15 August 2014. It was launched on August 28 of the same year.

The Prime Minister tweeted about this, the PM said that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana started on this day six years ago. Its purpose was to connect those who were deprived of it to the banking system. This initiative has proved to be a gamechanger. It has worked for a number of poverty alleviation schemes that have benefitted crores of people.
