Madras HC changed the death sentence to life imprisonment, said, it will be more severe punishment.

The Madras High Court (HC) on Monday changed the death sentence awarded by a trial court to life imprisonment for the murder of four family members, including their mother.

During this, the court said that the reduced punishment will be more severe.

The court also said that the petitioner will not be entitled to any statutory exemption or modification till he has completed 25 years of imprisonment.

Justice PN Prakash and Justice R. Pongiappan said, “If he is allowed to live, the crime of killing mother, wife and two minors will continue till his last breath.”

In our view, this would be a harsher punishment than the death penalty. Therefore, we are converting the death penalty to life imprisonment.

The court said that as he did not have the courage to overcome the financial crisis, the way he committed the diabolical act, his sentence should belong.

The bench was hearing the judgment on the review petition filed by the prosecution for confirmation of death sentence and the petition challenging the lower court’s decision filed by Damodaran alias Prakash.

Hearing in Karnataka HC on Twitter India MD’s petition today, Ghaziabad Police’s notice was challenged.

The Karnataka High Court will hear on Tuesday a petition filed by Twitter Managing Director Manish Maheshwari against the notice issued by the Ghaziabad Police.

Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari has challenged the notice of Ghaziabad Police by filing a petition in the Karnataka Court. The notice given under section-41A has been challenged in the petition.

Actually, this case is related to the video of an elderly beating going viral.

Manish Maheshwari was instructed to record the statement at the Loni border police station by June 24, but he did not reach.

Ghaziabad Police wants the physical presence of Twitter India MD for interrogation in the case. At the same time, on June 24, the High Court, while hearing, gave a big relief to Manish Maheshwari.

Giving interim relief, the court had directed the Ghaziabad police not to take any coercive action against Manish Maheshwari.

The court had said that if the Ghaziabad Police wants to interrogate the Twitter MD, then it can do it virtually.
