India Deploys Russia-Made ‘Sky Protector’ Missiles Amid Pakistan Tensions | Igla-S Strengthens Border Defense

India Deploys Russia-Made ‘Sky Protector’ Missiles: Amid heightened tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, India boosts its military with Russia’s Igla-S ‘Sky Protector’ air defense missiles. These VSHORADS systems enhance protection against drones, jets, and helicopters along the western border.

Amid tension with Pakistan, India gets ‘Sky Protector’, the enemy will be destroyed in a moment with the help of Russia. Amid rising tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army has received a major military boost. Recently, the Army obtained Igla-S air defense missiles, which are of Russian origin. These missiles are part of a very short-range air defense system and will further strengthen the Army’s ability to defend against air attacks.

The deal was done under the emergency purchase rights given to the Army by the government. The missiles received under this contract, costing around Rs 260 crore, are being given to the forward posts deployed on the border to protect against enemy fighter aircraft, helicopters, and drones.

According to sources, these missiles were received by the Army a few weeks ago and are being deployed on the western borders, where there is a threat from Pakistan.

The Army and Air Force both receive additional air defense capabilities

The Indian Air Force has also decided to purchase comparable, infrared-based VSHORADS missiles. Both the Army and the Air Force have been strengthening their arsenal through emergency and fast-track procurement processes for the past few years.

Along with the deployment of new Igla-S missiles, the Army has also issued a tender for the purchase of 48 new launchers and 90 additional missiles. Additionally, the Army plans to shortly purchase the VSHORADS system, which rides laser beams.

It is worth noting that Igla-S is an advanced version of the old Igla missile system, which has been in use in the Indian Army since the 1990s. The Army has also upgraded and repaired its old missile stock through an Indian company.

New Army techniques for dealing with drones

Given Pakistan’s increasing use of drones on its western border, the Indian Army requires improved drone detection and destruction technology. In this series, the army has deployed the Indigenous Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDDIS) Mark-1, which can catch, jam, and destroy drones at a distance of more than 8 kilometers.

This system also has laser technology, which can burn and shoot down drones. Recently, the army shot down a Pakistani drone using this technology in the 16 Corps Area of the Jammu region.

DRDO made this weapon

Along with this, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has also developed a new and long-range direct energy weapon, which can destroy large drones, cruise missiles, and aircraft during war. The army will soon also get radar systems to quickly detect enemy aircraft and drones flying at low altitudes.
