Gold worth 100 Crores smuggled from UAE to India, NIA claims in Kerala gold smuggling case. The NIA said that gold was smuggled around 20 times between November 2019 and January 2020 using the diplomatic channel process.
The NIA, which is investigating the Kerala Gold Smuggling case, has claimed that about 200 kg of gold worth Rs 100 crore was smuggled into the country from UAE through diplomatic level in Kerala.
The NIA said that gold was smuggled around 20 times between November 2019 and January 2020 using the diplomatic channel process. Along with this, the NIA also opposed the bail plea of the main accused.
The investigating agency said that the work was done intentionally. The accused Swapna Suresh and Sarith were aware of the possibility of gold smuggling through diplomatic level in early June 2019 while working with the UAE consulate.
According to the NIA, even after Swapna Suresh was removed from the post, he continued to involve himself to facilitate such activities. The investigating agency said, “The accused colluded and conspired to use this level for smuggling gold with the material required by foreign diplomats at the UAE consulate.”
About 1 crore of cash and 1 kg of gold was seized from the bank locker. The total seizure is worth more than Rs 2 crore. Swapna Suresh, who filed a bail plea, alleged that he was implicated in the crime without any basis. He also alleged that the case was a crime of political rivalry between the state and the Center.
