GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain said that “As part of an effort to adopt cleaner forms of energy, GAIL will enhance its renewable energy portfolio as well as lay pipeline infrastructure to connect consumption centers to gas sources. ”

In the company’s latest annual report, he said, “The global energy sector is witnessing a paradigm shift in recent years as the world transitions to a sustainable energy future.

Emphasizing the expansion of the gas sector so as to achieve a gas-based economy along with growth in renewable energy.

GAIL as a leading integrated energy company is working in line with this vision. The firm has an area of ​​about 6,000 kms.

The pipeline is being laid, which includes a west coast from Mumbai to the east coast to Jharsuduga in Odisha via Nagpur. It currently has a natural gas pipeline network of about 13,700 km.

Further, he added that GAIL will make “selective investments in the renewable energy portfolio keeping in view the future growth potential.

The company is looking at opportunities to enhance the renewable energy portfolio from the existing 130 MW through mergers and acquisitions.

” The company is also entering into ethanol and hydrogen production.” Hydrogen is a clean fuel, producing only water when consumed in a fuel cell.

Many countries are getting into hydrogen production from natural gas, nuclear power, biomass, and renewable energy such as solar and wind from various domestic resources.

In India, companies ranging from Reliance Industries to Indian Indian Oil and NTPC have announced ambitious plans to generate hydrogen and GAIL has now joined the list.
