Congress Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar in Punjab died of a heart attack on Saturday morning during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary: Such was the political journey of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, he used to do gym even at the age of 75.

He was traveling on foot with Rahul Gandhi in Bharat Jodo Yatra. During this, he had a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital in a hurry, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Who was Congress MP, Santokh Singh?

Actually, Santokh Singh Chaudhary was born on 18 June 1946 in Dhaliwal village located in Nakodar tehsil of Jalandhar district.

He was a former cabinet minister of Punjab and a member of parliament from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency.

He won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress party ticket. His winning streak continued in the year 2019 as well and he won from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency.

However, this morning he breathed his last at the age of 76 during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary got his early education in 1964 from DAV School, Chandigarh.

After this, he did further education at DAV College, Jalandhar in 1968 and then from Panjab University Chandigarh in 1972. Santokh Singh Chowdhary was a lawyer by profession.

Santokh Singh’s political journey was like this.

According to information, Santokh Singh Chaudhary started his political journey at Youth Congress. After this, he gradually strengthened his hold on the politics of the state.

Santokh Singh was first elected MLA from Phillaur in the 1992 assembly elections.

Santokh Singh also became the Minister of Agriculture and Forests in Pratap Singh Kairon and Giani Zail Singh’s government.

He played an important role in bringing a green revolution to the country including Punjab by opening the Punjab Agricultural University.

Jailed for three months.

When terrorism was at its peak in Punjab, Santokh Singh kept the party’s flag high. He also spent three months in jail during his political career.

Santokh Singh was MLA and minister twice. After this, MP was elected from Jalandhar for two consecutive terms.

Let us tell you that Santokh Singh used to take full care of his health even at the age of 75. He enjoys regular gymming, daily brisk walks as well as playing golf and reading books.

Santokh became a part of politics following his father’s footsteps.

It is noteworthy that Santokh Singh was the leader of the second generation in his family. His father Master Gurbanta Singh became MLA for the first time in 1938 in Akhand Bharat.

Whereas Dada Gopal Singh was a farmer. Santokh Singh also followed in the footsteps of his father and turned to politics
