Cabinet Meeting: Union cabinet meeting chaired by PM Modi, many important decisions are likely.

A meeting of the Union Cabinet will be held today at 11 am under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Many important decisions are likely to be taken in this meeting. Government sources said the Union Cabinet is likely to discuss an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on rabi crops, including wheat and pulses.

From November 26 last year, three new agricultural laws – the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020.

Farmers are protesting at various borders of the national capital against the Price Assurance Contract and Agricultural Services Bill, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

The union cabinet meeting will be chaired by PM Modi.

Apart from this, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday can also consider giving a relief package for the highly stressed telecom sector and the textile sector.

The government is in talks with several stakeholders, including banks, to provide a relief package to the sector. Vodafone Idea is battling a crisis with huge losses and high debt.

According to experts, the government is of the view that competition should continue in this sector and any possibility of monopoly should be avoided.

Last week, former Vodafone Idea Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla met Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.

During the meeting on September 1, Birla and Vaishnav discussed the health of the sector and the urgent need for government intervention.

Telecom shares rose on Tuesday on the prospect of relief measures from the government. Shares of Vodafone Idea rose nearly 15 percent on the BSE.

At the end of the day’s trading, its shares closed at Rs 8.28 per share, up 14.68 percent from the previous close. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel shares closed 2.48 percent higher at Rs 670.70 per share.
