Kerala High Court bans CBI investigation of life mission, Vijayan government gets relief. The Kerala High Court on Tuesday relieved the Pinarayi Vijayan government, facing the questioning of central investigative agencies.
The court has put an interim stay on the CBI probe into irregularities in the Life Mission Housing Project for two months. This is the Chief Minister’s favorite project.
The Life Mission had filed a petition in the High Court last month seeking cancellation of the FIR lodged by the CBI. The High Court rejected the demand for life mission.
The High Court has only stayed the CBI probe for violating the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act in the Vadakkannachery Life Mission Housing Project.
A detailed hearing in the case will continue as the court has sought information about the role of two private agencies Unitech Builders and Saina Ventures. Both these agencies have taken up a contract to build a flat in Vadakkancheri, Thrissur.
Appen has also asked the court to repeal the FIR
On the complaint of Congress MLA Anil Akkara of Vadakkancheri, CBI has filed a case in Kochi court under Section 120B of Bhadvi and Section 35 of Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010.
The CBI has appointed Santosh Aappen, Managing Director of Unitech Builder, Kochi as the first and Saina Ventures second, in the FIR. Appen has also demanded the court to quash the FIR.
What is the reason for doubt
Congress MLA Akkara had questioned the allegation of illegal work in the building project. Funds have come from the UAE-based charity Red Crescent for this project.
Chief Minister Vijayan had said that the state has no role in it other than just giving land, but things have changed since the Kerala gold smuggling case came to light. This project has also come through the UAE Consulate itself.
