Mohini Ekadashi 2024: Every Ekadashi date is considered auspicious in the Hindu religion. On this day people observe fast for Lord Vishnu and worship him.

The Ekadashi date falling in the month of Vaishakh is known as Mohini Ekadashi, which will be celebrated this year on May 19, 2024.

Regarding this auspicious date, it is said that on this day Lord Shri Hari had taken the form of Mohini. This date was named Mohini Ekadashi from her divine name, so let us know the secret behind it –

Why did Lord Vishnu assume the form of Mohini?

According to mythology and beliefs, gods and demons together churned the ocean to obtain nectar. As soon as the nectar pot was obtained from the churning of the ocean.

The demons snatched her away from the gods, then Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini.

Everyone was fascinated by seeing this divine form of Narayan. Then Mohini i.e. Vishnu ji persuaded the gods and demons to drink the nectar one by one.

After this, Shri Hari made all the gods drink nectar. However, during this period, a demon also drank the nectar by deceit.

Sun and Moon Gods recognized the deceit of that demon, after which they gave complete information to Lord Vishnu.

The head and torso were separated from Sudarshan Chakra.

Hearing this, Lord Vishnu severed the head and torso of that demon with his Sudarshan Chakra.

Because of drinking the nectar, the demon did not die, but his head and torso became immortal forever, which are today known as Rahu and Ketu.

Mohini Ekadashi.

For information, let us tell you that the date on which Shri Hari assumed the form of Mohini was the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month.

This is the reason why this Ekadashi is known as Mohini Ekadashi, by observing which all sins are removed.
