Violent protests against the Vaishno Devi ropeway project, workers pelted stones at the Katra bus stand; police were injured, and vehicles were damaged. The strike of the last 72 hours against the important ropeway project being built by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board on Tarakot Marg of Mata Vaishno Devi remained peaceful. But on Monday, hundreds of workers protesting against the ropeway project suddenly became violent during the protest at the main bus stand of Katra. During the violence, the workers pelted stones fiercely.
The CRPF vehicle got damaged in the stone pelting, while on the other hand, SHO Katra Chaman Gorkha, who was stopping the workers from pelting stones, along with two other police personnel Anwar Khan and Hardeep Singh got injured.
SHO Katra Chaman Gorkha along with both the police personnel was immediately brought to the government hospital of Katra for treatment, where they were treated by the doctor. However, SHO Chaman Gorkha’s fellow personnel suffered minor injuries and were discharged by the doctors after first aid.
Traders’ strike continues in protest against ropeway project in Vaishno Devi, devotees are facing trouble
Shopkeepers on Bhawan Marg kept their establishments closed for the second day on Saturday as part of the 72-hour strike in protest against the important project of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Along with the residents of Panchayat Purana Darud on Bhawan Marg, the workers of horses, Pitthu, and palanquins stopped working. All private business establishments from the Banganga area to the Milkbar area on Bhawan Marg remained closed.

Devotees have to travel on foot
Due to the strike of horses, Pitthu, and palanquin workers, devotees of Mata Vaishno have to travel on foot. However, on Bhawan Marg, from the Adkwari temple area to Bhawan, devotees are continuously getting battery car service and helicopter service. Due to the strike, elderly people, women along the disabled are also facing trouble.
On the second day of the strike, Panchayat Purana Darud Vyapar Mandal Committee members, villagers, and laborers gathered at Bhawan Marg. They raised slogans against the ropeway project and the Shrine Board.
During this, a procession was taken out from Charan Paduka Mandir area, Banganga area, Banganga Marg, and a sit-in demonstration was held outside the SDM office for two hours. On this occasion, SDM Piyush Dotra assured that their demands would be conveyed to the higher authorities.

The protesters also demonstrated at Katra’s main bus stand. During this time, vehicles coming to Katra’s main bus stand had to stop on the main roads. Devotees had to get out of their cars and come on foot. However, during the demonstration, jawans along with senior police officers were deployed for security arrangements. Panchayat Purana Darud Vyapar Mandal Committee members Dr. Karan Singh, Sohan Singh, Vikram Singh, Raman Singh, Sudarshan Singh, Omkar Singh, Joginder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Sindoor Singh, Narendra Singh made it clear that under no circumstances the ropeway project will be allowed to be built on the Tarakot road of Mata Vaishno Devi because it is tampering with the faith of Mata Vaishno Devi as well as the religious journey.
