The official Twitter account of Popular Front of India (PFI) has been suspended on Thursday morning. Twitter India has taken this step on the complaint of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On Wednesday, the central government banned the PFI and its affiliates for up to five years.
More than 200 leaders associated with PFI have been arrested in the raids going on across the country for the last several days.
PFI’s Twitter account (@PFIofficial) which was closed today had nearly 81,000 followers.
Twitter India has also closed the Twitter accounts of PFI President OMA Salam and General Secretary Anis Ahmed. Both of them were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) during the raid.

The central government had ordered the blocking of websites and internet media accounts of PFI and its eight affiliates under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had alleged that the PFI has links with the Islamic State terror group.
The organization has also been organizing various weapons training camps.
PFI was banned for involvement in terror cases.
At the same time, the Union Home Ministry said in its notification that the PFI has been banned for having links with global terrorist organizations and for being involved in many terror cases.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared PFI and its 8 affiliated organizations as a banned organizations for 5 years.
The action was taken under UAPA.
The notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said that in the exercise of the powers under Section 3(1) of the UAPA, the government hereby declares the PFI and its affiliates or affiliates or fronts to be an unlawful association.
