Sri Lanka President Election: Voting continues for the Presidential election in Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe casts his vote.

There are three candidates in the fray for the post of President – Ranil Wickremesinghe, Dallas Alhapperuma, and Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

All three names were proposed by Sri Lankan parliamentarians. The name of Sajith Premadasa was also taken as the presidential candidate. However, he withdrew his name.

Voting for the presidential election is taking place in Colombo. Interim President Ranil Wickremesinghe casts his vote.

Tamil National People’s Front (TNFP) general secretary and MP Selvarasa Gajendran did not vote. Many MPs have already cast their votes. The results of the election can come by Wednesday evening.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka to Maldives.

Significantly, 73-year-old Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka and fled to the Maldives while he was the President. From the Maldives, he moved to Singapore with his wife.

Gotabaya resigned from the presidency as soon as he arrived in Singapore. The situation in Colombo worsened after Gotabaya left the country.

People took to the streets and started protesting. The protesters also occupied the Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

During this, there was also a clash between the protesters and the security forces. One protester was killed and several were injured in the clash.

Sri Lanka’s acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe has once again declared a state of emergency in the country. The move comes just ahead of the presidential election on July 20.

It is known that Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned from the presidency in the past amidst the chaos of the protesters due to the deepening crisis in Sri Lanka.

The post has been lying vacant since Gotabaya’s resignation. Ranil Wickremesinghe has also made an appeal to political parties.

According to the report of the news agency, Ranil Wickremesinghe (Sri Lanka’s Acting President) requested political parties to put aside their differences and form an all-party government.

He has assured the public of positive dialogue with the IMF.

Wickremesinghe said in the two months since he took over as prime minister, power cuts have been reduced to 3 hours a day, farmers have been provided with fertilizers, and gas shortages have been addressed.
