Sharjeel Imam instigated a special religious class in the Delhi riots: Delhi Police’s reply on bail plea of Sharjeel Imam in High Court.
The Delhi Police, while filing a reply in the Delhi High Court on the bail application of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam, was accused in the Delhi riots case.
Police said that Sharjeel Imam, through his speeches, spread lies about the genocide in Assam and the central Incited a particular religious class to block access from India to the northeastern region.
Delhi Police argued that in view of the sensitivity of the case, Sharjeel Imam should not be granted bail, as if this happens then the accused can evade the process of law and can also threaten the witnesses.

It is noteworthy that Sharjeel Imam, arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), gave a provocative speech on December 13, 2019, during the ongoing agitation against CAA-NRC.
Two days later, on December 15, 2019, violence broke out in Jamia Nagar. The miscreants had torched several vehicles and attacked the police.
Sharjeel Imam is also accused of plotting the riots in North-East Delhi in February 2020.
