Russia backs India and supports permanent membership in UNSC: India-Russia Relations.
Russia has once again supported India as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has recommended India’s permanent membership in the UN.
Addressing the 77th UN General Assembly, Lavrov said that we see the possibility of making the Security Council more democratic through the representation of countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
India and Brazil in particular are major international countries, so these two countries should be considered for permanent membership.
Russia backs India: Russian foreign minister accuses western countries.
Addressing the UN General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov accused Western countries of pushing for referendums in Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine to become part of their federation.
Russia’s foreign minister said the crises surrounding the war were escalating and the international situation was rapidly deteriorating.
But instead of seeking an honest dialogue and agreement, the Western country was losing confidence in international institutions and creating negative tensions within the United Nations.

He said that America is trying to change the whole world and together with its allies, it is banning those who disagree with the views of the world.
He further said that their illegal and unilateral sanctions are in violation of the United Nations Charter and harm citizens of poor countries by targeting their drugs, vaccines, and food imports.
India had issued a joint statement.
Earlier, in a joint statement on reforms, India along with 31 other countries had said that the Security Council should be expanded in both the permanent and non-permanent categories.
The signatories to the joint statement said they reaffirm that there is an urgent and comprehensive reform of the Security Council, which is the key organ for international peace and security, as necessary to bring the United Nations in line with contemporary world realities.
