This massacre not only caused violence against Sikhs in Mumbai and Poona but also created tension in many parts of the country. Vaidya was given a final farewell with the honor of the army, which included several veteran leaders along with the Ala Afsran.

Vaidya was also posthumously awarded the Padmavibhushan. At the same time, Khalistan Commando Force said that Vaidya was attacked for leading Operation Blue Star.

Memories of this attack were refreshed many times. Harjinder Singh alias Zinda and Sukhdev Singh alias Sukkha, convicted of the attack, were sentenced to death in 1989 and hanged in 1992. Several years later, a Punjabi film, ‘Zinda Aur Sukkha’, which was mired in controversies and was released outside India in 2015.
