Rajnath Singh on a two-day visit to Andaman will talk to soldiers stationed on the island.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will reach the Andamans on Thursday to review the operational preparedness of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC).

He said, on his two-day visit, Rajnath Singh will hold a high-level meeting with the 16th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), Lt Gen Ajay Singh, to receive the first report on the overall operational situation.

Rajnath Singh’s itinerary includes a military vigil at Campbell Bay on Great Nicobar Island, where the naval air station INS Baaz is located.

Officials said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his desire to personally visit INS Baz on Friday to take stock of the station’s capabilities to meet challenges.

Rajnath Singh will also interact with the soldiers stationed in and around the islands.

He is likely to announce some major development projects, including the expansion of runways at Car Nicobar, Campbell Bay, and Shibpur (North Andaman), which will further strengthen the ANC’s capabilities, an official said.

The ANC was the armed forces’ first three-service theater command, established on October 8, 2001.
