BJP general secretary S Vishnuvardhan Reddy said that the Andhra Pradesh government took a strange decision to ban any opposition party from coming out on the streets against the government.

However, he said that action should be taken against those who do something wrong during the party meeting.

The YSR Congress Party government has banned holding public meetings and rallies on roads, including national highways, citing public safety.

What is a Government Order?

“The right to hold public assemblies on roads and public streets are governed by section 30 of the Police Act 1861,” the government said in its ruling.

Under the government order, Home Secretary Harish Kumar Gupta instructed the relevant local administrations and police to “determine public gathering places away from public roads to avoid traffic.

The movement of people, movement of emergency services, movement of essentials, should not be included in the order.
