Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised the Padma awardees and said the country is very proud of their achievements and their contribution to society.

In a tweet, PM Modi said, ‘Attended the ceremony in which Padma Awards were presented to eminent people from different walks of life. We are very proud of their achievements and contribution to society.

PM Modi also shared group photos clicked with the Padma awardees.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Amit Shah, and many other Union ministers are also seen in these pictures.

Let us inform you that on Monday, Radhey Shyam, General Bipin Rawat (posthumous), Ghulam Nabi Azad, Gurmeet Bawa (posthumous), N. Chandrasekaran.

Devendra Jhajharia, Rashid Khan, Rajiv Mehrishi, Cyrus Poonawalla, and Sri Satchidananda Swami were honored with Padma awards.

The awards are presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

‘Padma Vibhushan’ is given for exceptional and distinguished service, ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of a high order, and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.

These awards are given in the fields of various disciplines/activities like arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

General Bipin Rawat’s daughters received the award

Kirtika and Tarini, daughters of General Rawat, who made the supreme sacrifice in a helicopter crash in December last, received the award.

At the same time, many ‘unknown heroes’, including 125-year-old yoga instructor Swami Sivananda, were also honored with Padma awards.

In normal kurta-dhoti, when Swami Sivananda went barefoot to receive the Padma Shri award, people applauded.

Swami Sivananda got down on his knees to greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On this, PM Modi also immediately bowed down in front of Swami Sivananda and touched the ground.
