Pakistani police: 60 more leaders of Imran Khan’s party arrested, police intensified action after the announcement of general elections.

Pakistan, which is going through its worst phase, arrested more than 60 leaders and workers of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in connection with the attacks on military installations.

These leaders and workers were arrested from Punjab province. At the same time, PTI criticized it on Wednesday, calling it an ‘illegal fascist’ step.

After the announcement of general elections in Pakistan on February 8, 2024, the police tightened the noose and intensified the action against PTI leaders and workers.

The police had made some arrests on May 9 and immediately thereafter, but now new arrests have been made.

According to PTI, more than 10,000 party leaders and workers have been in jail since early May in connection with attacks on military and state establishments following the arrest of 70-year-old Imran Khan in an alleged corruption case.

The statement was issued by the police on Wednesday.

Police arrested 62 PTI workers involved in the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander House on May 9 and the burning of a plaza in different parts of the city on Tuesday.

Let us inform you that a large number of police forces also raided the residence of PTI Chairman Chaudhary Pervez Ilahi to arrest his relative and former MLA Major (R) Tahir Sadiq.

At present Chaudhary Parvez Ilahi is already in jail.

Senior PTI leader and former federal minister Moonis Ilahi said that the brutality of Punjab Police against PTI leaders and workers is at its peak as they are not sparing even women.
