With elections approaching in Punjab, state Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu’s constant ups and downs in the political outlook are proving to be a permanent headache for the party leadership.

The Congress high command has been sympathizing with Sidhu every time on political issues, trying to heal his tussle of not being able to become the Chief Minister.

But the former cricketer is making the leadership uncomfortable again and again with his moves. Sidhu, who has angered the top leadership by resigning from the post of state president.

He has made the party uncomfortable this time by making public a copy of the letter sent to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Sidhu’s stand to make the letter public at the party is being seen as an unwanted and unnecessary move.

Sources say that as the state president, Sidhu writing a letter to the Congress president asking for time to meet is not an unreasonable move.

But releasing this letter on internet media is not in consonance with political etiquette and decorum as it raises issues within the party, which can be resolved through mutual discussion.

In such a situation, making his letter public can only hurt the political interest of the party and especially when only four-five months are left for the Punjab elections.

Navjot Singh Sidhu is increasing the headache: However, despite the increasing headache from Sidhu, Congress does not have much option and time left in view of the elections.

In such a situation, there are indications that there is not much scope for the party leadership to take a very tough stand despite Sidhu’s latest letter making the episode exasperating.

Perhaps that is why the high command has asked Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to find a logical solution through dialogue to the issues raised by Sidhu.

After the Congress Working Committee meeting, Channi met Sonia Gandhi separately and says that during this time all the political issues of the state including Sidhu’s letter were discussed.

In view of this discussion, Channi spoke with Sidhu in Chandigarh on Sunday about the issues raised in the letter and talked about resolving all the issues.
