Judicial inquiry into the custodial death of a Dalit woman in Telangana, notice sent to the Chief Secretary.

The Telangana High Court has ordered a judicial inquiry into the custodial death of a Dalit woman in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

The woman died on June 18. The court has directed the Aler Magistrate to conduct the investigation and submit the report on a sealed cover.

The magistrate has also been directed to remove the dead body if necessary and conduct its post-mortem again.

According to news agency Pretr, the NCSC has also sent notices to the DGP and Chief Secretary of the state in this matter, seeking information about the action initiated in the matter.

A bench of Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T. Vinod Kumar gave the said order while hearing the PIL.

The petition has demanded an inquiry into the death of a Dalit woman at Addaguduru police station under the Rachakonda Police Commissioner’s office.

The court also wanted to know why CCTV cameras have not been installed in the police station despite the directions of the Supreme Court.

Mariamma, who worked as a domestic maid, was accused of theft. He died at the police station on June 18 due to alleged police harassment.

Vindhyala, general secretary of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, had filed public interest litigation in the High Court demanding a judicial inquiry.
