On this day i.e. on June 25, 1975, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed an emergency in the country.
Emergency was imposed in India from 25 June to 21 March 1977 i.e. for 21 months. It was recorded as a dark day in the pages of history.
Today this day has completed 46 years. Recalling this day, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Emergency has been a dark chapter in the history of India.
The minister tweeted and wrote, ‘Emergency imposed to suppress voice against one family is a dark chapter in the history of independent India.
Salute to the sacrifice of all the countrymen who fought for the protection of the country’s constitution and democracy, who endured the brutal tortures of ruthless rule for 21 months.
Along with this, he said that on this day in 1975, in the selfishness and arrogance of power, Congress had killed the world’s largest democracy by imposing an emergency on the country.
During this countless satyagrahis were imprisoned overnight, not only that the press was also closed. Parliament was formed by snatching the fundamental rights of the citizens.
And the court remained a mute spectator. The Minister said that an Emergency was declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for a period of 21 months from 1975 to 1977.
Officially issued by former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed under Article 352 of the Constitution due to the current internal unrest.
The Emergency was in effect from 25 June 1975 until its withdrawal on 21 March 1977. Explain that the final decision to impose an emergency was proposed by Indira Gandhi.
This was implemented after the assent of the President. The Emergency is considered one of the most controversial periods in the history of independent India.
