Joe Root made a big record in Test cricket, leaving behind Alastair Cook to occupy the first number.

England cricket team captain Joe Root scored 24 runs in the second innings of the second (Day-Night) Test match of the Ashes 2021-22.

At the same time, he scored 62 runs for his team in the first innings.

After his innings of 24 runs in the second innings, he came at number one in the list of captains who scored the most runs in Test cricket for England.

Joe Root has now become the leading run-scorer for England in Test cricket. Joe Root has so far scored 4859 runs for England as Test captain and he has overtaken Alastair Cook.

Cook had scored 4844 runs for England as a Test captain and now he has come at number two.

At the same time, Mike Atherton is at number three with 3815 runs in this list while Graham Gooch is at number four and he scored 3582 runs.

Joe Root has scored 1630 runs as Test captain so far in the year 2021 and he is second in terms of scoring the most runs in a calendar year.

The record for the most runs as a Test captain in a calendar year is held by Graeme Smith, who scored a total of 1656 runs in 2008. Joe Root has come close to breaking his record.
