Hindu Rituals: That’s why ashes are spread.

In Hindu religion, the body of the deceased is burnt in fire, which is called cremation. This is the last sanskara among the 16 sanskaras of the Hindu religion.

After the cremation rituals, the ashes are immersed in a sacred water source such as the Ganges.

It is believed in Hindu Vedas and Puranas that Ganga originates from the feet of Lord Vishnu, which Lord Shiva carries in his hair.

In such a situation, if the ashes of the deceased are flown in the river Ganga, it brings peace to his soul.

It is also believed that the journey of the soul of the deceased does not begin until the ashes of the deceased are immersed in the Ganga.

Therefore, after the completion of the cremation, it is considered necessary to throw the ashes into the river Ganga, so that the soul of the deceased can rest in peace.

Mention is found in Garuda Purana.

There is a story mentioned in Chapter 10 of Garuda Purana, in which the importance of floating the ashes or ashes of the deceased in the Ganga is explained.

According to the story, the bird king Garuda asks Lord Vishnu that whenever someone dies, the relatives of the deceased cremate him.

But after that why do the family members collect the ashes or ashes of the deceased and why does it flow into the river Ganga?

On this, Lord Vishnu says, that after cremating the deceased, the soul of the deceased gets peace by flowing his ashes or ashes in the river Ganga.  Because the holy river Ganga destroys all the sins of that person.
