Harsimrat Kaur Resignation: President Accepts Her Resignation

Harsimrat Kaur Resignation: President accepts Harsimrat Kaur’s resignation, Narendra Tomar gets an additional charge. Narendra Singh Tomar has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in place of Harsimrat Kaur.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday accepted the resignation of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal with immediate effect. He resigned from the post of food processing minister on Thursday, holding two agriculture bills presented by the government as anti-farmer. In place of Harsimrat Kaur, the President has given additional charge of the ministry to Narendra Singh Tomar.

According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan release, after consulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President has accepted Harsimrat’s resignation from the Central Council of Ministers under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution. BJP’s ally Shiromani Akali Dal has been consistently opposing the ordinance. Despite the opposition’s uproar in Parliament, both agricultural bills were passed by voice vote.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal tweeted her information about her resignation from the Modi cabinet. In her tweet, she said that I have resigned from the Union Cabinet in protest against the anti-farmer ordinances and the law. She is proud to stand with the farmers as their daughter and sister.

In the resignation letter sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said, ‘I believed that when these ordinances are finalized, the issues raised by her will be resolved by including her, but not done so. My resignation is going to uphold the thinking of my party which raised its voice in favor of the farmers. The Akali Dal has always been talking about the interests of the farmers.

Explain that Shiromani Akali Dal MP Sukhbir Singh Badal opposed the bill in the Lok Sabha. He announced from Parliament itself that Harsimrat Kaur Badal would resign from the ministry. However, the Shiromani Akali Dal will continue to support the government. The main allegation from the opposition was that this bill is the first step to abolish the MSP.
