In national politics, AK Antony and P. Chidambaram also returned to the Congress and gained a significant role in a few years after leaving the party. Some other late leaders also left Congress. The BJP asked the Congress whether it would put all such leaders in the category of traitors.

Indira Gandhi: The Congress divided between Indira Gandhi and Morarji Desai in 1969.

Jagjivan Ram: served in Congress from 1937 to 1977. Formed Congress for Democracy Party on 18 January 1977. It merged with the Janata Party on 25 March 1977. In 1980, he left the Janata Party and formed Congress.

Narayan Dutt Tiwari: Joined Congress in 1963. Formed All India Congress (Tiwari) in 1994. He joined Congress after 2000 and became the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

Pranab Mukherjee: After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, she split from the party and formed the National Socialist Congress Party. He again came to the Congress in 1989. Be the president.
