China Is Not In Favor Of Taking The Current Standoff On LAC

China is not in favor of taking the current standoff on the LAC further, signs of moving in a positive direction.

India and China have agreed to move forward towards a speedy resolution of the ongoing military confrontation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

Terming the 12th round of military talks held at the level of Corps Commanders of both countries as constructive, both the countries have agreed to resolve all pending issues of LAC.

A joint statement in this regard was also issued by both the countries to indicate that the talks of the Corps Commanders, which took place after a long gap, are moving in a positive direction.

During the talks, both India and China also agreed that in the interim, both sides will jointly maintain peace and stability in the western sector along the LAC.

One thing is clear from the mention of maintaining peace and stability in the joint statement that China is also not in favor of taking the current standoff on the LAC further.

The Indian Army issued this joint statement on Monday after the July 31 meeting between India-China Corps Commanders.

It said that the two sides held in-depth and open talks to resolve pending issues, including the withdrawal of troops along the LAC in the western part of the India-China border areas.

In this meeting, both the countries acknowledged that this meeting of the 12th round was constructive.

This dialogue has further enhanced the mutual understanding of both parties.

It was agreed at the level of both the Corps Commanders that the remaining issues of the LAC should be resolved expeditiously under the existing agreements and protocols.

The 12th round of talks between the Corps Commanders took place at the Moldo Military Base in China, which lasted for nine hours.

The talks came after discussions between the foreign ministers of India and China held in Dushanbe on July 14 and the meeting of the Working Group on Border Affairs on June 25.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had clearly told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the conversation that India cannot accept attempts to change the status quo on the LAC.

Restoration of the status quo is important for peace and stability along the LAC along with normal relations between the two countries.

According to sources, during the Corps Commander talks, India insisted on the withdrawal of Chinese troops from the areas of Gogra, Hat Spring, and Depsang and clearly said that unless China withdraws its troops from these areas, the situation on the border will not be normal.

It is known that due to the military confrontation and escalation on the LAC, about 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers of both countries are still stationed on the borders of Eastern Ladakh.
