The bill allows Chinese Coast Guard personnel to demolish structures in other countries built in Chinese-claimed areas and to test foreign vessels in areas claimed by China.
The Bill empowers Coastguards to create permanent exclusion zones to prevent other ships and personnel from entering.
In response to the concerns, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said on Friday that the law was in line with international practices.
The first article of the bill states that legislation is needed to protect China’s sovereignty, security, and maritime rights. The law comes seven years after China merged several civilian maritime law-enforcement agencies to form the Coast Guard Bureau.
