In 2012, the BJP got 21 seats under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar. The Goa BJP has once again been able to reach close to the same number on its own, on the foundation prepared by Parrikar.

But this time there has been some increase in his vote percentage. So far, where BJP has been coming to power with a maximum of 33 percent votes, this time its vote percentage is seen going above 34 percent.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant managed to save the seat.

Monserrate has said it was his own victory, not that of the BJP, as the party cadre had tried to win over Utpal. Due to the insistence of contesting from Panaji itself, BJP did not give the ticket to Utpal.

He contested as an independent. Barely winning Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, facing a tough challenge, managed to save his seat by just 666 votes.

But both his deputy chief ministers Manohar Ajgaonkar and Chandrakant Kavlekar lost the election.

Both have lost to Congress candidates. Jagankar was defeated by Digambar Kamat and Kavlekar was defeated by Alton D’Costa.
