In the previous session, the Sensex closed at 55,629.49, down 162.78 points, or 0.29 percent. On Wednesday itself, the Sensex touched a high of 56,118.57 points.

On the Sensex, the share of UltraTech Cement was up 2.46 percent and the share of Bajaj Finance was up by 2.12 percent. At the same time, the share of Bajaj Finserv saw a rise of 1.78 percent.
