Asian Boxing Championship: Amit Panghal reaches the semi-finals of the Asian Boxing Championship.

The Indian team players continue to perform well at the Asian Boxing Championship. Defending champion Amit Panghal (52kg) clinched India’s 13th medal with a place in the quarter-finals.

He defeated Mongolia’s Kharkhu Enkhamandakhi in a hard-fought contest and clinched his second consecutive medal at the Asian Boxing Championships, reaching the semi-finals on Wednesday.

After winning the silver medal at the World Championships 3–2, it was decided that India would win at least 13 medals in the tournament.

Panghal, recovering from a slow start, made some great punches in the last two rounds and turned the match towards him.

After trailing in the first three minutes (first round), the Army boxer was able to show his familiar style in the second round.

He also cleverly thwarted the rival boxer’s attack attempts. The Mongolian boxer struck some fine punches on Panghal’s body but the Indian boxer’s counter-attack surprised him.

Earlier on Tuesday, four boxers including three women from India entered the semi-finals of the Asian Boxing Championships with an impressive win. Sanjit (91 kg),.

Sakshi (54 kg), Jasmine (57 kg), and Simranjit Kaur (60 kg), who qualified for the Olympics, won the quarter-finals late on Tuesday and clinched the final four.

Seven of India’s medals were assured on the day of the draw. These include six-time world champion MC Mary Kom (51 kg).
