Airtel conducts the first 5G trial in rural areas. This test was done on the outskirts of Delhi-NCR.

Telecom company Bharti Airtel and equipment manufacturing company Ericsson on Tuesday said they have conducted the country’s first 5G network trial in rural areas.

Airtel CTO Randeep Singh Sekhon said at an event that 5G will be a transformative technology in providing last-mile broadband coverage through a service like FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) and contribute to a more inclusive digital economy.

Airtel conducts the first 5G trial: According to a study, an average 10 percent increase in the mobile broadband adoption ratio leads to a 0.8 percent increase in the gross domestic product (GDP).

Another Rs 40,000 crore relief possible for telecom companies, considering the withdrawal of ongoing court cases.

After the reforms made in the telecom sector last month, the government is considering giving another relief to its companies.

The central government is contemplating withdrawing legal cases against telecom companies related to disputes of about Rs 40,000 crore.

According to a source, taking a step in this direction, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in a case against Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications.

In this, the department has said that the telecom sector is going through a financial crisis and the service providers are running in losses.

Referring to the memorandum of the Indian Banks’ Association, the department said that adverse developments in the telecom sector are not only destroying competition but may also lead to problems like monopoly.

This can create serious problems for those banks, which have given a lot of credit to this sector.

The department said in an affidavit filed in the court on October 4 that the central government wants to review its decision to proceed with the appeal.

However, considering the nature of the issue, this decision will be taken after consultations at various levels. It may take some time.

The department has sought three weeks’ time from the Supreme Court in this regard.

According to the government, the financial liability of various telecom service providers is around Rs 40,000 crore depending on the amount involved in the cases.
