The National Women’s Wrestling Camp organized for the preparation of the Tokyo Olympics at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sarojninagar, will now begin on October 26. Since Dussehra has been postponed for a day on 25 October.
11 wrestlers including Arjuna Award winners Divya Kakran, Vinesh Phogat and Pooja Dhanda have already reached the Sai Center for this camp. At the same time, five other women players including Sakshi Malik will reach Lucknow on Sunday.
Eyes will be on vinesh and divya
Coach Kuldeep Malik will have a strong eye on Olympic medalists Vinesh Phogat and Divya Kakran in the national camp starting from Monday. Vinesh Phogat’s responsibility for the medal in the Olympics has increased and now she is also working very hard for this.
For Vinesh, the year 2018 was the most important and that year, the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games gold medal, as well as the silver medal in the Asian Championship prepared the way for him.
Vinesh has also received the Arjuna Award earlier. Apart from the way Divya Kakran has performed at the international level in the last two-three years, since then she is also expected to get an Olympic medal.
It is known that due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, many Olympic qualifiers have had to cancel the tournament. If the situation is normal by February-March, then their planning will be considered.
Monitoring of players’ preparation and diet
SAI Center director Sanjay Saraswat said that all preparations related to the camp have been completed. Training of women wrestlers will start from 8 am on Monday. The players have not practiced on the mats since March.
According to the SAI management, the diet of players is always different compared to normal but special care is being taken in this coronary period. Seasonal fruits, milk, and dry fruits are included in the diet of the players.
Due to which they get plenty of protein and calcium. Coach Kuldeep Malik is also monitoring the preparation of the players. The two months of preparation are very important for these players. During this time, everyone will also be challenged to get their rhythm.
All sports training starts in Sai till the third week of November
The Center of Excellence for various sports, which has been closed for eight months at the Sai Center Lucknow, will start from October 25 to December 4. 25 women wrestlers will reach the center on Sunday.
The proposal to start all these centers got the green signal from Sai headquarters Delhi on Friday.
It is known that talented players from all over the country are kept in the Center of Excellence. There is a provision to provide high-level training to them. The city has weightlifting, hockey, athletics, and Taekwondo’s Center of Excellence in addition to wrestling.
SAI director Sanjay Saraswat said that all the players are being called in different groups. This sequence will run till 18 November. Once the players reach Lucknow, they will have to quarantine for seven days under the gigline released for rescue from Covid-19.
After this, everyone will have a corona test. He told that now all the sports training will be started gradually. The number of players is 125 in SAI’s Center of Excellence.
