The Karnataka government on Tuesday took an important decision in order to bring transgenders into the mainstream.

Under this, this community will be given one percent reservation in the police department of the state.

With an aim to promote gender equality, Karnataka Police has for the first time invited applications from transgenders for the post of ‘Special Reserved Sub-Inspector’.

Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood said that it has been decided to give 1 percent reservation to the transgender community in the appointments to be done in the police department.

“I think doing so will help bring them into the mainstream,” he said. “Women are being appointed along with men in the police department.

Till 3-4 decades ago, there was talk of reservations for women in the police department. Our target is to bring 25 percent of women into the police force.

Recruitment-2021 notification released by Karnataka State Police states that male, female, transgender, residual in service and welfare Karnataka (local) 2021-22 can apply for 70 posts.

The educational qualification for the post is graduation and online applications can be filled from 20 December while the last date to apply is 18 January 2022.

Nisha Gullar of NGO ‘Sangam’ told that she had approached the Karnataka High Court to give transgender also a government job opportunity.

“We had moved the court in June 2020 and this year the verdict came in our favor”. We welcome the decision of the Karnataka Police to appoint us.

According to Nisha, there are about one lakh transgenders in Karnataka, out of which about 13 thousand are associated with her organization.

IT search operation in Karnataka, the action was taken on 18 December.

The Income Tax Department had launched a search and seizure operation on December 18 on various persons and their companies involved in the construction and real estate business and operation of educational institutions in Karnataka.

According to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, a Kolkata-based entry operator was also covered in this campaign.
