The Empire: Babar’s Entry On Disney Plus Hotstar

The Empire: Babar’s entry on Disney Plus Hotstar amid social media debate over Mughals, know what’s special in the show.

There is often debate about the Mughal Empire in India. For the past few years, a clash of ideologies is being seen in social media regarding this issue.

In a recent interview, director Kabir Khan sparked this debate by saying that the Mughals have made a remarkable contribution to nation-building.

Incidentally, amidst the debate, a new show titled The Empire, which is based on the life and battles of Zaheeruddin Muhammad Babar, who laid the foundation of the Mughal Empire in India, is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar from August 27.

Although the makers are describing the show as a fiction inspired by history, the name of Babur and the history of medieval India are enough to generate interest for it.

According to the information, the story of The Empire is derived from the pages of author Alex Rutherford’s book Empire of the Mughal – Raiders from the North.

The show is produced by Nikkhil Advani and directed by Mitakshara Kumar. Mitakshara has been assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Come, know what is special about this show-

The most important thing about The Empire Show is that it will tell about the era of Babur when he was not the emperor of the Mughal Empire and his life was made difficult by Shaibani Khan.

As shown in the trailer, it was not for Babar to get over Shaibani Khan. The character of Babar is played by Kunal Kapoor, while Shaibani Khan is played by Dino Morea.

The show will also throw light on the pivotal role of female characters in running governance.

Shabana Azmi plays Babar’s maternal grandmother Begum Esaan Daulat, while Drashti Dhami plays Babar’s sister Khanzada. This is the digital debut of both Shabana and Drishti.

One of the highlights of The Empire is its production. From the trailer, the show looks quite grand and panoramic.

The bulk of the show has been shot in Uzbekistan, where Babur’s father Omar Sheikh ruled. Many great scenes of elephant-horse and sword fight can be seen in the show.

The show also has the potential to make great use of VFX as the forts, palaces and battle scenes are not possible without VFX in the era of history the show takes.

The Empire has 10 episodes. This is probably the first Indian historical fiction show on digital platforms to be made on such a large scale.
