Strong Protests Continue In Muzaffarabad City Of PoK

Strong protests continue in Muzaffarabad city of PoK against the construction of China and Pakistan dams. Strong protests and torch rallies were held in Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Monday night to protest the mega-dams being built by Chinese firms on the Neelum-Jhelum River. During the protest, the protesters of the ‘Save Darya, Save Muzaffarabad’ (Save River, Save Muzaffarabad) committee shouted slogans like ‘Let the Sapphire-Jhelum flow, let us be alive’.

Please tell that more than a thousand people from the city and other parts of PoK participated in the rally. Recently, Pakistan and China had signed agreements for construction by Azad Pattan and Kohala Hydropower Company in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Azad Pattan hydro project of 700.7 MW power was signed on 6 July 2020 as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The $ 1.54 billion projects will be sponsored by the China Geozaba Company (CGGC).

At the same time, the Kohala Hydroelectric Power Project which will be built on the Jhelum River is about 7 km from Azad Pattan Bridge in Sudhanoti district of PoK and 90 km from Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. Expected to be completed by the year 2026, the project will be sponsored by China Three Gorges Corporation, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Silk Board Fund. With the help of this project, electricity can become cheaper in the country.

At the same time, one protester said that we should demonstrate the Kohala project and continue until it is stopped. Explain that in view of the China and Pakistan Economic Corridor, the natural resources of PoK and Gilgit Baltistan are being spoiled by Pakistan and China jointly capturing them. Outrage is high against Pakistan and China in the occupied territories.

Earlier on August 12, the people of the city protested by taking out a torch rally to protest the construction of the dam on the Neelum-Jhelum river in the area. For a long time, the people of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) have been opposing the construction of the mega-dam on the Neelum-Jhelum river on behalf of Chinese companies. Rallies are being held there. The protesters attending the rally also raised slogans to save the rivers.

At the same time, in the Dayal of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, people also take out a large-scale rally and protest against human rights violations. During that time there are fierce slogans against Pakistan. Protesters allege that Pakistan is taking barbaric action here, evidence of which has been seen many times. Explain that all these rallies are attended by thousands of people.
