Sri Lanka urges India for immediate financial help, the island nation trying its best to get funds from IMF.

Sri Lanka, which is going through an unprecedented crisis, has appealed to India for immediate financial help.

It has urged India for more financial help till it gets funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It may take three-four months to get funds from IMF.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ali Sabri has left for Washington to initiate talks with the IMF and the World Bank for a bailout package.

This demand has been made by Sri Lanka at a time when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has held several rounds of talks with her Sri Lankan counterpart and High Commissioner.

Sources said that Sri Lanka has also appealed to India to help in getting loans from its friendly countries and multilateral organizations like Japan.

An expert in the matter told that the stand of the Indian Finance Minister is positive towards this proposal. She can urge friendly countries to help Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka urges India for financial help: Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister may meet Nirmala Sitharaman.

Sri Lankan Finance Minister Sabri is expected to meet Sitharaman in Washington next week.

According to the report of Colombo Page, Sabri has left for America along with the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nandlal Veerasinghe, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Shriwardene.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan delegation had a meeting with the IMF on 9 April.

It is noteworthy that India has helped Sri Lanka with the payment of oil and has announced a loan of one billion dollars. Apart from this, it is also continuously supplying rice and other food items.

Catholic Church supports Galle Face’s demonstration.

The Catholic Church has announced its support for the youth protest in Galle Face outside the Presidential Secretariat.

Spokesman Rev Jaimini Fernando said the Catholic Church also felt that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should resign.

Let us tell you that the youths who have been protesting for more than a week are demanding the resignation of the members of the Rajapaksa family posted in the government and a radical change in the political culture.
