Social media companies like YouTube may soon be cracked down in criminal cases related to social media platforms.
In view of this, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday asked the Tamil Nadu government and the state police whether social media companies cannot be implicated as accused or abettors in criminal cases involving social media platforms.

Social media is being misused to earn money.
During the hearing of the case, the judge told Duraimurugan’s counsel that it has been observed that many people are misusing social media platforms to earn money.
He also said that some people have also admitted that they have learned to commit crimes like making guns, robbing through videos on YouTube.

The judge also directed the Tamil Nadu ADGP Cyber Crime Branch to submit a detailed report on the mechanism to be adopted to check the misuse of YouTube within a week.
