Palaniswami Will Be The Highest Leader Of The AIADMK

Palaniswami will be the highest leader of the AIADMK: Madras High Court verdict. Palaniswami will be the interim general secretary of the AIADMK.

The court today put an end to the ongoing controversy over the leadership of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

The Madras High Court today heard the issue again and upheld the decision of the General Council meeting to consider Palaniswami as the interim general secretary of the party.

Obviously, this has dealt a blow to AIADMK leader Panneerselvam.

The party had called a general council meeting on July 11, in which it was decided that Leader of Opposition Palaniswami would be the interim general secretary of AIADMK, and Panneerselvam was thrown out of the party.

Panneerselvam had approached the High Court against this decision. Meanwhile, Palaniswami had appealed for a single leadership in the party.

Court set aside the decision of August 17.

On Friday, a division bench of Justice M Duraiswami and Justice Sundar Mohan re-heard it and while allowing Palaniswami’s appeal, set aside the judgment of a single bench of Justice G Jayachandran on August 17 which held the meeting to be invalid.

Along with ordering the factions to maintain the status quo on June 23, Palaniswami’s election was also canceled.

Palaniswami was appointed supreme leader of AIADMK.

With this new decision of the court, it has now been decided that Palaniswami will remain the highest leader of the party.

It is to be known that after the death of AIADMK party chief Jayalalithaa in the year 2016, dual leadership was started in the party and the government.

Under this, where Palaniswami became the Chief Minister, Panneerselvam was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.

While Panneerselvam was made the coordinator, Palaniswami was given the responsibility of the joint coordinator.

However, over time, the relationship between these two party loyalists soured and a July General Council meeting was called to assert dominance over the party.
