Six people, including four journalists, were arrested on Wednesday for trying to tarnish the image of Assam minister Hemant Biswa Sarma. They also include a woman.

All these people are accused of sharing a photo of Hemant Biswa Sarma with their daughter with ‘dirty intentions’. All the accused were sent to police custody for five days after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Guwahati city police commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said that Taufikuddin Ahmed, the editor-in-chief of a local news website – Reflection Live – and news editor Iqbal have been arrested in connection with the investigation into the ‘conspiracy’.

Apart from these, two more journalists – Spotlight in Sivasagar, Nang Noymoni Gogoi of Assam, and Puli Muchahari of Bodoland Times have also been arrested.

Police have said that in case of any such attempt, strict action will be taken under the Posco Act.

In this case, the minister’s wife had filed a complaint with Dispur Police Station under the Posco Act. A photo of the minister hugging his daughter was posted on the website, which is viral on the internet media.

At the same time, Minister Sarma told journalists that this is a clear case of a political conspiracy. But going down to such an extent reflects the poor mentality of the people concerned.

It will connect Dhubri in Assam to Phulbari, Tura, Rongram, and Rongjeng in Meghalaya.
