The Chief Minister said that he was not aware of what Shivshankar was doing in the past but his name is coming in the smuggling case. His resignation has already been demanded by the opposition.

Shivshankar filed an anticipatory bail petition in the High Court after his name surfaced in smuggling gold. Taking cognizance of this, the High Court had directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Customs Department not to arrest them.

Explain that the opposition is accusing IAS officer Shivshankar as well as Chief Minister Vijayan of being involved in gold smuggling. However, the Chief Minister has said that he has nothing to do with the case while saving his hand.

There is a long list of accused in this smuggling case. It also features Suresh, a close aide of Shivshankar. Swapna was involved in a project of the state chief minister, for this, Swapna is accused of taking a commission of Rs 9 crore.

After Swapna’s name in the smuggling case, Chief Minister Vijayan had said that strict action was taken against him and was suspended.

It is worth mentioning that on July 5 this year, the Custom Office seized 30 kg of gold worth Rs 15 crore from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. In the case, the central agency first arrested Sarit Kumar, a former employee of a consulate in Kerala.

He briefed the Customs Department about the role of Swapna Suresh, an ex-commerce employee working as the manager of the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited.

After this, the matter reached politics. State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also got his name. It was said that Swapna was related to the Chief Minister and when she was working in UAE, many were seen in the party together.

However, Swapna was later suspended. M Shivshankar, the then principal secretary to the chief minister, was also suspended after his role in hiring. Subsequently, a special NIA court sent Sarit Kumar, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, to NIA custody for 7 days.

An FIR was lodged against the main accused Sarit Kumar, Swapna Suresh, Fazil Farid, Sandeep Nair, and others after the case was handed over to the NIA.
