Shreyas Iyer’s Brilliant Century: India Beat South Africa

Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant century, got him entry into Virat Kohli’s special club.

Shreyas Iyer, the batsman of the Indian cricket team, played a match-winning century against South Africa.

Shreyas is in the role of vice-captain in the 3-match home series against South Africa. He scored a brilliant century in 103 balls in the second ODI of the series played in Ranchi.

The Indian team won this match by 7 wickets and leveled the series 1-1. Right-handed batsman Shreyas Iyer equaled a special record of former captain Virat Kohli during this period.

Chasing the target of 279 runs set by South Africa, the Indian team lost both its opening wickets inside the powerplay.

Captain Shikhar Dhawan returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs while Shubman Gill was caught by Kagiso Rabada on his own ball with a personal score of 28 runs.

After this Shreyas and Ishan Kishan played brilliant innings. Both of them got India out of the initial setbacks by sharing 161 runs.

Left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan scored 93 runs in 84 balls. However, he missed his maiden ODI century by 7 runs.

After this, Iyer continued to work with Sanju Samson to advance the innings. Both gave India a thumping victory 4.1 overs ago.

Shreyas became the second Indian to score a century on this ground.

Shreyas hit 15 fours in his innings of 113 not out. Shreyas has become the second Indian batsman after Virat Kohli to score a century in Ranchi.

Virat played an innings of 123 against Australia in the year 2019 and 139 not out against Sri Lanka in 2014.

Shreyas is the fourth batsman overall to score a century on this ground. Earlier, Angelo Mathews and Usman Khawaja of Sri Lanka have done this work.

Shreyas has scored 1 century and 4 half-centuries in ODIs this year.

For Shreyas, this year 2022 has been very good in ODIs. So far this year, he has scored a total of 458 runs with the help of one century and four half-centuries.

The third and deciding ODI of the series will be played on October 11 in Delhi.
