Seventh Arrest In Udaipur Killing, NIA Arrested Farhad Sheikh

Seventh arrest in Udaipur Killing, NIA arrested Riyaz Akhtari’s aide Farhad Mohammad Sheikh.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a person named Farhad Mohammad Sheikh in connection with the brutal murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur last month.

A total of seven people have been arrested in the case so far. An NIA spokesperson gave this information on Sunday. The spokesman said Sheikh alias Babla was arrested on Saturday evening.

The spokesperson said Shaikh is a “close criminal associate” of Riyaz Akhtari, one of the two main accused, and actively participated in the plot to kill the tailor.

Kanhaiya Lal was stabbed to death inside his sewing shop on June 28. Ghaus Mohammad recorded the gruesome attack on a tailor by Riyaz Akhtari over a phone call and posted the video online.

Both later said in a video that they killed Kanhaiya Lal to avenge the alleged insult to Islam. Both were arrested a few hours after the murder.

In addition, security agencies have identified two more persons—Mohsin and Asif—who are believed to be part of a conspiracy to spread terror among the public at large.

Two more accused – Mohd Mohsin and Waseem – were later arrested for their involvement in a criminal conspiracy and for helping the two main accused in reconnaissance of a tailor’s shop.

Investigating agencies have claimed to have found several Pakistani numbers on his WhatsApp account and said that one of the accused was part of some secret groups formed for religious activities.

There are allegations that Ghaus was asked to do ‘something big’ to avenge his insults to Islam in one of these groups and officials believe this may have been a turning point when the tailor was brutally murdered.

A conspiracy was hatched. He told that Mohsin’s whereabouts were used to sharpen the knife used in the murder and Asif had helped in the recce of the tailor’s shop.

The NIA had on June 29 re-registered the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) after taking over the investigation from the Rajasthan Police.

The case was initially registered at Dhanmandi police station in Udaipur.

The agency spokesperson had said, “The NIA has filed against the accused sections 452, 302, 153 (A), 153 (B), 295 (A) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 16, 18 of the UAPA, 1967.”

NIA re-registered the case under 20 on charges of conspiracy, and committing barbaric murder. A video of the criminal act was also circulated on social media.
