Saina Nehwal keen to open badminton academy in Shimla, waiting for government approval.

If the state government accepted international shuttler Saina Nehwal’s request to open a badminton academy in Himachal, then the players of the state would not have to go to Hyderabad and Bangalore for training.

Legendary player Saina Nehwal, who arrived in Shimla on Sunday, met Governor Bandaru Dattatreya at Raj Bhavan along with husband Arjuna Award winner Parupalli Kashyap.

Both expressed their desire to open a badminton academy in the state.

He said that players from North India go to Hyderabad and Bangalore for coaching, whereas international level coaching should be given to them in North India itself.

Coaching is very important for level playing and coaches should be of international standard. Saina also praised the cricket stadium in Dharamshala.

She said that most of the players are doing well at the national level, but often lag behind at the international level.

Parupalli Kashyap said that many players go abroad for higher training, whereas this training can be given in Himachal.

There are plenty of possibilities here. He said that there is a shortage of coaches and facilities in badminton.

Earlier, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya honored Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap by offering a Himachali cap, shawl, and as a memento of Raj Bhavan as per the Himachali tradition.

She said that the youth of the state are very talented. Due to the lack of better facilities, many times they do not get a proper platform.

Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap posed and photographed standing alongside the Indo-Pak settlement table. Information in this regard was also obtained.

He also met Chief Minister Jairam Thakur along with Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap. This meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s residence.

This move by Saina Nehwal will give a further boost to badminton in the state and the players will get the best facility in their own state.
