RTI Activist Filed Petition In The Supreme Court

RTI activist filed a petition asking the Supreme Court for details of pending bail petitions.

RTI activist Saket Gokhale has submitted an application to the Supreme Court on Thursday requesting the details of the interim bail petitions pending before the registry.

The RTI application was filed at a time when the Supreme Court granted bail to him within two days of the Bombay High Court dismissing the petition of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.

Saket Gokhale has also sought information on the average time taken between bail petitions pending before the Supreme Court and filing of interim bail petition in the registry and being listed before the appropriate bench.

He alleged that there were too many cases of arrests in Bhima Koregaon or Delhi riots, cases of political prisoners or habeas corpus of Kashmir where private freedom was crushed.

He claimed that when these cases were mentioned before the Supreme Court, the petitioners were first asked to go to the High Court.

Gokhale said, among these things, the reason for filing the RTI application is to know how many such interim bail petitions are pending before the registry of the Supreme Court.

We are seeing that some cases are expedited, while some cases are pending for a long time, but are not listed.

It is a known fact that the judicial process is slow and a lot of cases are already burdened. But, some people are jumping the queue and their cases are expedited.

Hearing on Arnab’s anticipatory bail petition postponed till 23 November

After receiving huge relief from the Supreme Court, Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, has approached the court for anticipatory bail in another case.

He has filed a petition in the sessions court to avoid arrest from the woman police officer in the alleged Dhakamukki case.

The Mumbai Police have also accused Arnab as well as his wife Samyabrata Rai Goswami in this case.

On Thursday, the sessions court adjourned the hearing on the anticipatory bail plea filed by Arnab and his wife till 23 November.
