The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an agreement between India and St. Vincent and the Grenadines to assist in the exchange and submission of tax information.
The agreement between India and the Caribbean island nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will help in facilitating the exchange of tax information among themselves.
This agreement covers the sharing of information held by banks and other financial institutions, including proprietary legal information.
An official statement said the agreement would help settle tax claims between the two countries.
Similarly, it will strengthen India’s commitment to fighting offshore tax evasion and tax avoidance practices, which generate unaccounted black money.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved this agreement.
The agreement also includes provisions for tax investigations abroad, allowing one country to allow representatives of another country to enter its territory to interview people and check records for tax purposes.
There was no such agreement in the past with St. Vincent and the Grenadines. India was negotiating this agreement for a long time.
Finally, St. Vincent and the Grenadines agreed to finalize this agreement with India.
This agreement will promote mutual cooperation between the two parties in the collection and exchange of information on outstanding tax claims.
