Dhami’s role was also instrumental in getting the party to victory in the assembly elections.

The BJP had made him a minister at the Center despite Arun Jaitley and Smriti Irani losing the Lok Sabha elections in the past.
The TMC had also adopted the same formula in the recent Bengal assembly elections. Even after Mamata Banerjee lost the election, TMC made Banerjee the chief minister.
Offer to give up a seat for Dhami.
There has also been an offer to vacate the seat for Dhami in case he is made the chief minister. MLA Kailash Gahataudi, who won the election from Champawat on the previous day, had first made this offer.
Now BJP candidate Mohan Singh Mehra, who won from Jageshwar, and Umesh J Kumar, who won the independent election from Khanpur, have also made similar offers.

The names of former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Minister of State Ajay Bhatt are also in discussion for the post of Chief Minister.
