Nepal Can Be Declared A Hindu Nation By Referendum

Nepal can be declared a Hindu nation by referendum. Nepal’s minister supported the demand to declare the country a Hindu nation again, the referendum should be conducted.

A senior minister in the Nepal government on Thursday supported the demand to declare Nepal as a Hindu nation, saying it can be done through a plebiscite if the majority of the population is in favor of it.

Addressing the inauguration of the two-day Executive Council meeting of the World Hindu Federation in Kathmandu.

Tourism and Culture Minister Prem Ale said that the demand for declaring Nepal as a Hindu state can be considered. If such a demand comes, he will play a constructive role.

Minister Ale was responding to a demand raised by Vishwa Hindu Mahasangh during the event.

Over 150 delegates from 12 countries including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, USA, Germany, and the UK are participating in the two-day Executive Council meeting.

He said that since the present five-party coalition government enjoys a two-thirds majority in the Parliament. The demand to declare Nepal as a Hindu state can be put in a plebiscite.

Although our constitution has declared the country a secular state if the majority of the population is in favor of a Hindu state, then why has Nepal not been declared a Hindu state through plebiscite?

Like other countries, even after being a Hindu nation, it will remain democratic.

During the event, Ajay Singh, President of World Hindu Federation International, demanded that Nepal be declared a Hindu state, as the country has a large part of Hindu population.

He said that I was surprised to learn that the then Hindu state of Nepal was suddenly declared secular.

He questioned whether if some countries can be declared Islamic countries and still adopt democratic systems, other countries can be declared Christian states and still adopt democratic systems.

Then Nepal can be declared a Hindu democratic country. Why can’t it be done?”

He called upon all the parties of Nepal to put aside their political ideology and come together and declare Nepal as a Hindu Rashtra.

He said that I request Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN-UML, and Madhesi parties to come forward to declare Nepal as a Hindu state.
