National Herald case: 4 senior Congress leaders to appear before ED, notice issued.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued notices to some Congress leaders from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The notices had been issued in connection with its probe into alleged money laundering involving the National Herald newspaper, a newspaper owned by the Congress party.

Officials gave this information on Friday. Some Congress party leaders have been called here for questioning over the next few weeks.

While others have been served notices about certain payments made to Young Indians. Officials said that notices have been issued to four leaders.

Earlier this week, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar told reporters after he was questioned by the ED in Delhi about certain transactions he had done with the company in the past.

“Surprisingly, they (ED officials) asked me about payments to one of my trusts, and my brother to Young Indian,” he told reporters on 19 September.

More time has been sought from the agency for furnishing the details.

In the National Herald money laundering case, in the last few months, the ED has questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son and MP Rahul Gandhi, besides some other Congress leaders.

The National Herald newspaper is published by Associated Journals Limited and the ED had in August searched the Young Indian office at ITO in Delhi as part of its probe.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will participate in the Karnataka phase of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

This yatra led by Rahul Gandhi will enter Karnataka on 30 September. Congress State President DK Shivakumar (D.K. Shivakumar) gave this information on Friday.

Shivkumar said that the state unit has made preparations for the yatra by giving responsibility to various leaders.

“Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will participate in the yatra here. She will tell about the dates. I will announce the dates in the coming days.”
